Smart routing

Targeting rules send each visitor to a different destination depending on their country. The link stays the same; you can add, change or remove rules at any time.

How rules work

Open a link and go to the Geo targeting tab. Each rule reads WHEN country operator value → Target URL.

  • Each country can be in one rule. Rules never overlap, so their order doesn't matter and there is nothing to rank.
  • A link can have one is not rule. It catches everyone the other rules didn't, except the countries it names.
  • A paused rule is skipped.
  • When no rule matches, the click goes to the A/B split if there is one, otherwise to the link's default destination.
  • Click Save rules to apply. Changes take effect on the next click.

Operators and values

Rules match on the visitor's country, picked from a list (ISO codes such as VN, US, DE). Country rules need the Starter+ plan.

Good to knowA visitor whose country can't be determined doesn't match any country rule, including is not. They go to the A/B split or the default destination.

Routing by device

Sending iPhone, Android and desktop visitors to different places is what a deep link does: it opens the app when it's installed and falls back to the store when it isn't. Fill in only the store URLs and each phone goes straight to its store. Targeting and deep links are separate: a deep link can't carry targeting rules or A/B variants, so give each its own link.

Example: an offer per country

An affiliate campaign has separate landing pages for Vietnam and Thailand, one for the US, and a global page.

Example: everyone except one country

An offer isn't available in Germany. Everyone else goes to the offer; German visitors get an alternative stored as the default destination.

Default destination: yourbrand.com/alternatives. Visitors with an unknown country also land on the default, the safe choice here.

Measuring each rule

Below the rules, Rule performance shows the last 30 days of clicks and visitors for each rule, plus a No rule matched row for everything that fell through. Each click counts once, for the rule that sent it, so the rows add up to the link's total. A rule with no clicks usually names a country your campaign doesn't reach.

Tips

  • Keep a sensible default destination: it catches everything your rules don't.
