| Safe page | Where bots go. Pick a real, public page that makes sense on its own, such as your deals overview or home page. |
| Money page | Where people go. Leave it blank to keep using the link's targeting rules, A/B split and default destination. |
| Bot filtering enabled | On: bots get the safe page. Off: everyone gets the money page (useful to pause filtering without losing your settings). |
What counts as a bot
A click is treated as a bot when any of these apply:
- The browser sends no user agent at all.
- The user agent names a known crawler or preview fetcher: Googlebot, Bingbot, Yandex, Baidu, Applebot, Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, Pinterest, Ahrefs, Semrush, Majestic and similar.
- It is a headless or automated browser (Headless Chrome, Puppeteer, Playwright, Selenium, PhantomJS).
- It is an HTTP library or tool: curl, wget, python-requests, axios, node-fetch, Go, Java, Scrapy and similar.
- Our edge network scores the request as very likely automated.
Good to knowDetection is based on the request itself. A bot that perfectly imitates a normal phone browser can get through, so treat the safe page as something anyone might see.
Example: keep scrapers off a promo page
You post a link to a private discount page in groups and chats. You want chat apps to show a normal preview of your deals page, and scrapers not to collect the discount URL.
- Create go.yourbrand.com/deal with the discount page as its destination.
- Cloaking tab: enable cloaking, safe page yourbrand.com/deals, leave the money page blank, keep bot filtering on, Save.
- Test: open the link in a browser (discount page), then run curl -I https://go.yourbrand.com/deal (redirects to /deals).
How it fits with routing
- With the money page blank, people still go through your rules and A/B split.
- With cloaking on, it takes over from deep links and the PWA install page.
- Protection (password, countries, referrers) and schedules are checked before cloaking.
Use it responsibly
Platform rules still applyCloaking is meant to protect links and keep automated traffic out of your funnel. Don't use it to show ad-network or platform reviewers different content from what users see, or to mislead visitors. That breaks most platforms' policies and our Terms of Service, and can get your ad accounts closed.
