Creating links
A link is a slug on one of your domains that points to a destination. Everything else (rules, splits, schedules, protection) is added on the link's detail page, and you can change it at any time without changing the URL you shared.
Create a link
- Click + Create Link in the top bar.
- Pick the domain.Only active domains are listed. With none, the dialog links you to Domains.
- Paste the destination URL.If you leave out
https://, we add it. - Optionally set a slug and a name, then click Create. The name is only for you; it appears in the link list and search.
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| That slug is taken. | Another link on the same domain uses it (slugs are per domain). |
| Link limit reached for your plan. | The project has used its plan's link allowance. |
| That destination host is blocked. | The destination is on our abuse blocklist. |
| Your role cannot create links in this project. | Ask an Owner or Admin for a role that can, or to add you to a team. |
Slugs
- 1 to 64 characters: letters, numbers,
-and_, starting and ending with a letter or number. - Left empty, a random 7-character slug is generated. The shuffle button on the Basic tab generates a new one.
- Renaming is safe: when you change a slug, the old one keeps redirecting to the same link.
The Basic tab
- Tags are free text, created as you type. Use them for channel, client or campaign.
- Folder groups links; it shows as the Group column in the link list.
- The tiles above the tabs show the last 30 days: Clicks, Unique visitors, Conversions, Conv. rate and Revenue.
What happens on a click
Each click goes through these steps, in this order. The first step that decides the outcome wins.
- Status and scheduleA paused link, or one outside its start/expiry window, gets its on-limit action.
- ProtectionCountry, IP and referrer checks, then the password. See Password & access control.
- Click limitOnce the max clicks is reached, the on-limit action applies.
- RoutingGeo targeting rules, then the A/B split, then the default destination.
- Deep linkOnly if no rule or variant took the click.
- CloakingBots get the safe page, people the money page.
- RedirectQuery parameters are added and the visitor is redirected (or shown the deep-link or PWA install page).
Query strings and UTM tags
Whatever the visitor adds to the short link is passed on to the destination. Parameters already in the destination win, so you can lock values in.
Short link: https://go.yourbrand.com/spring?utm_source=tiktok&utm_campaign=q2
Destination: https://yourbrand.com/sale?utm_campaign=spring
Visitor goes: https://yourbrand.com/sale?utm_campaign=spring&utm_source=tiktok
(utm_campaign kept from the destination, utm_source added)UTM values on the incoming click are also recorded, so Traffic sources on the Overviews page shows them.
Pause and trash
- Paused links stop redirecting and follow their on-limit action (a 404 unless you set a fallback). Switch back to Active any time.
- Trash (bin icon) takes the link offline and moves it out of your active list.
- Duplicate starts a new link with the same destination.
Example: one link per channel
You promote the same sale on Facebook, TikTok and email and want to compare channels. Create three links to the same page, each with its own slug and tag:
| Slug | Destination | Tags |
|---|---|---|
spring-fb | yourbrand.com/sale?utm_source=facebook | spring, facebook |
spring-tt | yourbrand.com/sale?utm_source=tiktok | spring, tiktok |
spring-mail | yourbrand.com/sale?utm_source=newsletter | spring, email |
The link list shows clicks per link side by side, and the destination page receives a clean utm_source for your own analytics.
